Louisville City FC and New Mexico United have been outstanding on their home turf this season.
In this week’s edition of USL Championship News & Notes, ahead of their showdown this Saturday night at New Mexico’s Isotopes Park, we look at one major record both sides could claim before the end of the campaign, and one where New Mexico’s margin for error is already down to zero.
We also have an update on Sacramento Republic FC after its road victory against Detroit City FC on Saturday continued its undefeated journeys this season, a note on the youngest player to score in the league this season, and where Las Vegas Lights FC’s current club record undefeated streak ranks in the league this season.
We’ve also got our regular look at upcoming individual landmarks around the Championship and the Week 22 Discipline Report.
Let’s begin.
LOUCITY, NEW MEXICO, AND THE BEST HOME CAMPAIGNS ALL-TIME
Current Eastern Conference leader Louisville City FC and Western Conference leader New Mexico United have used their dominant home form to sit in their current positions, putting both clubs in position to sit among the best regular season home records in the Championship’s history.
Louisville City FC took its ninth win in 10 home games against Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday night, putting the side only four wins from equaling the league’s regular season record of 13 home wins with seven games remaining at Lynn Family Stadium. That mark has been accomplished in each of the past five full seasons in the Championship, excluding the abbreviated 2020 campaign.
Most Home Victories in a USL Championship Regular Season
T-1. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC – 13 wins, 2023
T-1. Louisville City FC – 13 wins, 2022
T-1. Tampa Bay Rowdies – 13 wins, 2021
T-1. El Paso Locomotive FC – 13 wins, 2021
T-1. Indy Eleven – 13 wins, 2019
T-1. Phoenix Rising FC – 13 wins, 2019
T-1. Real Monarchs SLC – 13 wins, 2018
T-1. Orlando City SC – 13 wins, 2014
New Mexico United – which plays twice at Isotopes Park this week against Las Vegas Lights FC (Wednesday) and Louisville City FC (Saturday) – is currently the lone undefeated side at home in the Championship this season (7-0-1), also putting it in contention to equal or surpass the home victories mark.
However, there is another mark that remains within reach of only New Mexico this season, but one that can only be accomplished if the side wins out its remaining 10 home games.
The current mark for home points-per-game in a Championship regular season is held by 2014’s Orlando City SC side, which went 13-0-1 at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex to average 2.86 PPG. New Mexico currently sits at a 2.75PPG game at home this season, while Louisville City FC sits at a 2.7PPG mark and due to its defeat to Rhode Island FC cannot surpass Orlando City SC’s mark even should it win out.
Highest Home Points-Per-Game Mark in a USL Championship Regular Season
1. Orlando City SC, 2014 – 2.86PPG
2. Rochester Rhinos, 2015 – 2.71PPG
