SEASIDE, Calif. – Monterey Bay F.C. announced on Wednesday that the club has parted ways with Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop and assistant coach Ramiro Corrales.
Yallop departs Monterey Bay with a 33-44-18 record through two-and-a-half seasons at the helm. The club also announced it will reveal its new Head Coach next Monday following Monterey Bay’s home contest against the Tampa Bay Rowdies this Saturday at Cardinale Stadium.
Analysis
Frank Yallop becomes the fifth coaching change this season in the USL Championship with Monterey Bay fighting for its first trip to the postseason in eighth place in the Western Conference standings. The move comes after a recent run of up-and-down form which saw MBFC claim victories in its past five outings against Oakland Roots SC and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, but with a new appointment already lined up for the club it feels as those results may have come too late for Yallop to get the opportunity to continue in his role.
Under Yallop, Monterey Bay produced some remarkable goalscoring outbursts, but those were tempered by below-par production otherwise. Combined with an Expected Goals Against mark of 126.97xGA since the start of the 2022 regular season – the fifth-highest total in the league over that span – and the side’s league-leading 4.1 shots on target allowed per game mark this season and a new voice that could provide more defensive structure was on the cards.
