TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced today Oakland Roots SC’s Gavin Glinton had been awarded the Championship’s Coach of the Month award for June after leading the side to four victories in six outings as Oakland vaulted up the Western Conference standings.
Glinton took charge of Roots as interim Head Coach on April 28 following the club’s decision to part ways with former Head Coach Noah Delgado. Despite a narrow defeat to open June, the club then began a strong run of form that highlighted the changes that Glinton has brought in attacking philosophy to the side.
Among the club’s four victories were a 1-0 win at home to the Tampa Bay Rowdies that saw young goalkeeper Tim Syrel record a four-save shutout and a 3-2 victory against NorCal rival Sacramento Republic FC at Heart Health Park the following weekend. Roots’ win in Sacramento was its first in the series since 2021, and sets up an intriguing rematch on Sunday, July 21 when the sides meet in the Championship’s national network broadcast on the CBS Television Network at 4 p.m. ET.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized with the Coach of the Month award, especially amongst such deserving colleagues,” said Glinton. “Credit to my staff and especially this resilient group of players, as awards like this are a recognition of our recent on-field achievements, which are a reflection of our internal processes and work behind the scenes at our Club.”
Glinton earned the award with 39 percent of the ballot. Louisville City FC’s Danny Cruz finished in second place on 24 percent after LouCity also earned four wins in the month and led the Championship with 13 goals.
The USL Championship’s Coach of the Month award is voted upon by the USL Championship National Media Panel and the USL Championship Technical Committee, with each group responsible for 50 percent of the overall vote.
