Make way for the Boys in Blue.

Indy Eleven extended its undefeated streak across all competitions to eight games and advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time in club history with a 3-0 victory against USL Championship rival Detroit City FC at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

Augustine Williams and Ben Ofeimu each scored for a second consecutive outing as the hosts capitalized on their chances to stake themselves to a three-goal halftime lead before holding off Le Rouge’s attempt to rally in the second half.

After a cagy opening, Indy received a slice of good fortune to open the scoring in the 14th minute. Ben Mines took possession in the left side of the Detroit half and played a pass to overlapping teammate Ofeimu, whose first-time cross low across the face of goal took a deflection off DCFC defender Stephen Carroll and deflected into the left corner of the net.

By contrast, Indy’s second in the 33rd minute showed the precision the side has been capable of on its recent run of form. A clever chipped pass over the top by Jack Blake picked out Douglas Martinez Jr. breaking into the right channel, and the Honduran international’s touch played the ball into the path of Williams to bag his seventh goal across all competitions as he found the net in a fourth consecutive contest.

Three minutes later, the hosts added their third as Ofeimu delivered again. Five days after scoring his first in the club’s colors, he held off a marker at the back post to get on the end of a corner kick from the right by Aedan Stanley to head home at close range.

Detroit peppered the Indy net throughout the night – outshooting its hosts by almost a 3-1 margin – but Le Rouge were unable to find a way past Indy goalkeeper Hunter Sulte, who had a seven-save shutout to play his part in keeping the side’s Open Cup aspirations alive.

Scoring Summary
IND
– Stephen Carroll (own goal) 14’
IND – Augustine Williams (Douglas Martinez Jr.) 33’
IND – Ben Ofeimu (Aedan Stanley) 36’
