Former Championship standout played key role in Playoff Final as Reds took victory to seal spot in EFL League One

Former USL Championship standout Jeremy Kelly and Crawley Town FC are going up to EFL League One with the American midfielder putting in a sterling performance in the Reds’ 2-0 victory against Crewe Alexandra on Sunday afternoon at Wembley Stadium in the EFL League Two Playoff Final to book their promotion for next season.

Kelly played almost the full 90 minutes, being substituted in second-half stoppage time after a solid display that saw him complete 44 of 45 passes, notch one shot that was deflected wide by a Crewe defender and make two interceptions and one tackle defensively.

Added by Crawley on the final day of January’s transfer window, Kelly played a substantial role in helping his new club return to the third tier in English soccer for the first time in a decade. The 26-year-old appeared in 18 regular season contests and notched one goal and two assists – the latter coming in the final two games of the campaign – as the side rose from 12th place at the time of his arrival to clinching seventh place and the final spot in the promotion playoff on the final day of the season.

Kelly then started all three of Crawley’s playoff contests as it first defeated MK Dons 8-1 on aggregate before victory at the home of English soccer on Sunday.
