TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced today the Charleston Battery’s Ben Pirmann had been awarded the Championship’s Coach of the Month award for April, earning the 2022 Championship Coach of the Year the third Coach of the Month award of his career so far.

Currently in his second season with the Battery, Pirmann guided the side to its second consecutive undefeated month to put the defending Eastern Conference title-holders on top of the Eastern Conference. Among the results the Battery produced were a 3-2 victory against Louisville City FC in a rematch of the Eastern Conference Final of the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs, which was followed by three consecutive outings in which the Battery registered at least four goals in taking victory.

The Battery’s current 10-game undefeated start season is the club’s longest in the USL Championship era, while its five-game winning streak is its longest since the 2013 season. In addition to leading the Championship with 17 goals in the month, Charleston also led the league with an Expected Goals mark of 12.33xG in five games, one-third more than its closest rival in that statistic.

“It is always great as a club to receive recognition for your achievements and it’s well deserved for the hard work that Ben and the entire coaching staff put in each day,” said Battery President Lee Cohen. “Ben is one of the best coaches in the United States across all levels right now and you can see his growth and development each day. I’m extremely proud of what he continues to accomplish and how he represents both the Charleston Battery and the Charleston community.”

Pirmann earned the award with 48 percent of the ballot. Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach Mark Briggs finished second on 37 percent after also leading his side to a second consecutive undefeated month in the league with three wins in four games. Sacramento is now the lone side in the Championship that has yet to trail in a contest so far this campaign.

The USL Championship’s Coach of the Month award is voted upon by the USL Championship National Media Panel and the USL Championship Technical Committee, with each group responsible for 50 percent of the overall vote.
