New Oakland Roots SC signing Dom Dwyer has recorded more than 100 goals in his professional career, and has won both MLS Cup and the USL Championship Final.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Thursday the club had signed former United States Men's National Team forward Dom Dwyer, bringing aboard the former MLS Cup and USL Championship Final winner to bolster its attack for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The 33-year-old most recently played for Atlanta United FC in Major League Soccer where he added to a stellar 10-season career that saw Dwyer record 85 goals and 19 assists in 231 regular season appearances and two goals in nine postseason appearances.

“Adding a player to the mix with the pedigree of Dom is going to be a huge boost to the team and the locker room,” said Oakland Roots Head Coach Noah Delgado. “He comes to Oakland with experience at some of the highest levels of the game and gives us another dangerous goal scoring threat.”

Dwyer comes to Oakland with MLS experience from Sporting Kansas City, Orlando City SC, Toronto FC, and Atlanta United. He won MLS Cup with Kansas City in 2013 and the U.S. Open Cup in 2012 and 2015, bringing a winning pedigree to Roots. His most prolific season in MLS was in 2014 where he scored 22 goals in league play.

The experience coming to Oakland goes beyond MLS and includes four National Team caps with the USMNT in 2017. This span included goals vs Ghana in a friendly and Panama in the Gold Cup, a tournament he and the team would go on to win in 2017.

Dwyer’s pathway in the professional ranks was launched in the USL Championship after a stellar college career at the University of South Florida. Sent on loan to Orlando City SC in the 2013 campaign from SKC, Dwyer recorded 15 goals in 13 appearances before a midseason recall to Kansas City. He returned to Orlando for the USL Championship Final at the end of the season and produced a four-goal performance to lead the Lions to a 7-4 victory against the Charlotte Eagles to claim MVP honors as OCSC took its second USL Championship title.
