LOUISVILLE, Ky. – One of the Bundesliga’s historic clubs is coming to Lynn Family Stadium.

Louisville City FC announced on Sunday it will welcome Eintracht Frankfurt for an international friendly on Tuesday, July 30 at 8 p.m. ET, marking the second consecutive year the club has welcomed Germany opposition for a mid-summer exhibition.

Eintracht won the prestigious UEFA Europa League in 2022, played this season in the Europa Conference League and is battling for another European finishing position to the 2023-2024 campaign, sitting in sixth place in the current Bundesliga standings.

“It’s an honor for us to host Eintracht Frankfurt on their U.S. tour,” said LouCity President James O’Connor. “They are a club steeped in history, and this game will provide another wonderful opportunity for our fans, players and coaches to face a top-class European team. We appreciate the trust Eintracht Frankfurt has shown us, and we look forward to welcoming them in July.”

LouCity-Eintracht Frankfurt will mark City’s third international friendly after the club last year hosted FC Kaiserslautern (Germany) and Atlante FC (Mexico). This, however, is the first time City will face First Division competition from overseas.

Founded in 1899, Eintracht Frankfurt’s accolades include a German Championship, five DFB-Pokal domestic cups and a pair of UEFA Cup/Europa League titles. The club – nicknamed the Eagles, a tribute to the city of Frankfurt’s coat of arms – has played in the Bundesliga in all but one season since 2006. Eintracht Frankfurt will be in Louisville as part of its preseason for the 2024-2025 campaign opening at the end of the summer.

Frankfurt's roster is packed with national team talent, including a pair of United States internationals. Germany native Timothy Chandler represented the U.S. while numbering 29 caps from 2011-2016, and youngster Paxten Aaronson – out on loan through the end of the ongoing season – has a senior team cap to his name.
