Louisville City FC heads to face four-time Open Cup winner Seattle Sounders, Las Vegas Lights FC to host Los Angeles FC

CHICAGO – The draw for the Round of 32 in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup was announced on Thursday lunchtime as the final eight teams from the USL Championship entering this year’s tournament at this stage joined with the 12 teams that advanced from this week’s Third Round learned their path for the next two rounds of the historic tournament.

Highlighting the draw are a pair of road visits to former Open Cup winners for two of the Eastern Conference’s early frontrunners this season. Louisville City FC will head to face four-time Open Cup title winner Seattle Sounders FC as it bids to continue its run in this year’s tournament, while currently undefeated Detroit City FC will visit defending Open Cup champion Houston Dynamo FC in early May.

Nine of the USL Championship’s clubs received a home draw in the Round of 32. Among them is Las Vegas Lights FC which will play host to its former partner club Los Angeles FC, which is currently led by former Lights Head Coach Steve Cherundolo. New Mexico United was also drawn at home to MLS opposition as it faces a clash with Real Salt Lake, while Oakland Roots SC will visit the San Jose Earthquakes and Memphis 901 FC will visit FC Dallas.

The draw also delivered some all-USL Championship clashes with notable storylines as the Tampa Bay Rowdies host Birmingham Legion FC in a rematch from last year’s postseason, when Legion went to Al Lang Stadium and took victory against the Rowdies. NorCal rivals Sacramento Republic FC and Monterey Bay F.C. will also square off at Heart Health Park in a renewal of their growing feud.
