New Mexico United to welcome FC Juarez for international friendly

Third international friendly in United history will see Liga MX club visit on Wednesday, June 19

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Wednesday the club would host Liga MX club FC Juarez in an international friendly on Wednesday, June 19th at 7 p.m. MT at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.

The match is the third international friendly in United’s history, and the first against a club from Mexico. Founded in 2015, FC Juarez has been part of Liga MX since 2019 and features current players including Costa Rica international Francisco Calvo and Spanish midfielder Aitor Garcia, who has recorded 10 goals in league play since joining the club last summer.

“We are so excited to welcome a top tier club like FC Juarez to the Land of Enchantment,” said New Mexico United President Ron Patel. “Los Bravos have an incredible fan base and have accomplished so much – including promotion to Liga MX – in their 10 seasons. We look forward to meeting their players on the pitch and showing their fans a terrific time in New Mexico.”

"We are delighted to begin this relationship and play against our friends at New Mexico United,” said FC Juarez President Luis Rodriguez. “For FC Juárez, it is a priority to promote its ties with soccer fans in Albuquerque in addition to having more of a presence in the Southwest U.S., we are the only major league sports franchise of any sport in a radius of 400 miles [from the El Paso region], so we want soccer fans in the Southwest to see Bravos as a true option to follow and support."

Led by Avilés Hurtado’s six goals so far, los Bravos are vying for a postseason berth with two games to play in the the current 2024 Clausura. They have bested clubs like Atlético de San Luis, Santos, and Puebla so far this season. The club was founded in 2015 and has impressed throughout its first decade in the Mexican First and Second divisions.

In addition to the match on June 19th, New Mexico United will host a series of events for Bravos and United fans alike in the week preceding the competition. Information on those events, including how to attend, as well as broadcast information for the match, will be released at a future date.
