Indy Eleven acquires Laurence Wootton on loan from Chicago Fire

24-year-old midfielder was two-time Big Ten Midfielder of the Year prior to selection in 2024 MLS SuperDraft


Indy Eleven has acquired midfielder Laurence Wootton on loan from Chicago Fire FC for the remainder of the 2024 USL Championship season.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Wednesday the club had acquired midfielder Laurence Wootton on loan from Chicago Fire FC of Major League Soccer. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Wootton was selected by the Fire with the 64th overall pick of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft after a standout career at Ohio State University. With the Buckeyes, the 24-year-old he was a member of the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and a four-time All-Big Ten First-Team selection, one of only six players all-time to accomplish the feat.

Wootton was twice named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year (2022, 2023) and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2021. The Burton-on-Trent, England, native played in 63 matches at Ohio State and tallied 18 goals and six assists.

Prior to his time in Columbus, Wootton played for Cardiff City’s Reserve Team following three years with the Cardiff City Academy and 10 with Stoke City Academy.

In an additional roster move, Indy has released defender Jay Klein.
