South Sudan international Machop Chol joins San Antonio FC

Forward recorded two goals in 19 appearances for Atlanta United FC in 2023 MLS season


San Antonio FC has signed forward Machop Chol, who made 34 appearances for Atlanta United FC in Major League Soccer over the past three seasons.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed forward Machop Chol for the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Chol joins San Antonio having spent the past three seasons with Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer. A graduate of the club’s Academy, the 25-year-old signed as a Homegrown Player in 2021 and this past season notched two goals and one assist in 19 appearances in MLS. Chol also recorded one goal in five appearances in the USL Championship for Atlanta United 2 during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Chol began playing with the Atlanta United Academy in its inaugural 2016-17 season before committing to national powerhouse Wake Forest. Over the course of his collegiate career, he bagged 13 goals in 65 matches for the Demon Deacons and in 2019 was voted to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Third Team.

A native of Khartoum, Chol has three caps for South Sudan at the full international level, appearing most recently in Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying in January.
