SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC midfielder Mohammed Abu has announced his retirement after 14 years in professional soccer. Abu joined San Antonio FC during the 2021 season and made 78 appearances with the club.

“We want to express our deep gratitude for Abu's time with the club,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “His on-field performances, including winning a championship, have made a lasting impact. Off the field, his infectious smile, laughter, energy and leadership have been invaluable. Abu has been an exceptional spokesperson and role model for the club. We thank Abu for everything he’s contributed.”

Abu was a valuable piece of the 2022 USL Championship title-winning squad, featuring in 30 matches and leading the team with 56 chances created. In his time at SAFC, he posted seven assists in 6,041 minutes across all competitions.

Over the course of his career, the Ghanian has played in MLS, La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Norwegian First Division. Abu also appeared for the Ghanaian National Team in multiple competitions, including FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations.
