Wake Forest product joined by midfielder Alex Dalou in signing ahead of season opener

TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielders Camilo Ponce and Alex Dalou ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

Ponce joins Tulsa having completed his college career last fall at Wake Forest University, where he made 11 appearances in his senior season. Ponce entered preseason as a trialist for FC Tulsa, and has continuously proved himself to earn his first professional contract.

“Camilo is an exciting attacking player,” Head Coach Mario Sanchez said. “Camilo is quick, dynamic, and can create off the dribble. We love his confidence on the ball. We believe Camilo will add another dimension to our attack.”

Prior to transferring to Wake Forest, the 20-year-old spent a single season at Boston College in 2022. Ponce recorded one goal and three assists in 16 for the Eagles, scoring his lone goal in his collegiate debut against Quinnipiac College.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining FC Tulsa and very appreciative of the coaching staff for putting their trust in me,” said Ponce. “God has always been at work in my life and has blessed me by giving me the opportunity to help the team have a successful season. My teammates have welcomed me in and I am confident in our ability to put on a show this season. I wouldn’t be here without my family and I want to represent the neglected and forgotten talented players from my neighborhood and beyond.”

Dalou joins Tulsa after also entering the preseason as a trialist with the club. The 24-year-old most recently competed for Albion San Diego in the National Independent Soccer Association, where he recorded two goals across the regular season and playoffs. He had previously scored a pair of goals during a stint with Gold Star Detroit before joining San Diego.

“Alex is a very direct, 1v1 attacking threat,” said Sanchez. “We love his quickness off the dribble and his desire to take risks in the attacking third of the field. He has the speed to also be the opponent with his runs off the ball.”
