SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Wednesday the club had acquired forward José Mulato on loan from FC Dallas of Major League Soccer ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mulato joins San Antonio having recorded 11 goals and three assists in 20 appearances for FC Dallas’ reserve team North Texas SC during the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. The Colombian also made seven appearances for FC Dallas in MLS, logging 100 minutes of action.

A native of Santiago de Cali, Mulato grew up playing in Deportivo Cali’s academy system before making his professional debut for the side in Categoría Primera A, Colombia’s top flight. In 2021, Mulato spent time with German giants Bayern Munich as part of the club’s World Squad program for talented youth players and was later invited to train with the First Team. He joined North Texas SC on loan in 2022, posting nine goals and four assists in his first season in MLS NEXT Pro, and was subsequently signed by FC Dallas ahead of the 2023 season.

Mulato has also made seven appearances for Colombia U19 and U20 squads. He scored his first international goal in a friendly against the Dominican Republic in September 2022.
