San Antonio adds forward Hugo Mbongue on loan from Toronto FC

19-year-old forward made 14 appearances in Major League Soccer, Leagues Cup in 2023 season

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday the club had acquired forward Hugo Mbongue on loan from Toronto FC of Major League Soccer for the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation  and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mbongue joins San Antonio having made 14 appearances for Toronto in MLS and Leagues Cup during the 2023 season. A native of Toronto, the 19-year-old initially joined Toronto FC II when it was part of USL League One in 2021, and over the course of the next two seasons he recorded four goals and six assists in 1,336 minutes.

In 2022, he signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Reds and made his First Team debut in October. Since then, Mbongue has competed for both the First Team and spent time on loan in MLS NEXT Pro with the reserves

Mbongue has appeared for the Canadian National Team at the U15 and U20 levels. He scored a hat trick in his international debut at the U15 Concacaf Championship.
