LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Lights FC announced today the acquisition of goalkeeper Nicholas Ammeter via transfer from Swiss club FC Wil 1900 ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. Per club policy, terms of the transfer agreement will not be disclosed, and the transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Ammeter joins the Lights after a sterling start to the 2023-24 Challenge League, Swiss’ soccer’s second tier, in which he made 20 appearances and recorded six shutouts. His performances have helped FC Wil currently sit in third place in the league standings.

“We are extremely happy to bring Nicholas Ammeter to Las Vegas,” said Lights Sporting Director Gianleonardo Neglia. “His extensive experience in Switzerland – including competing in the country’s youth national team ranks – at a young age for a goalkeeper make him an ideal addition for our squad. We believe in Nicholas and Austin Wormell we have a strong goalkeeping tandem that can help both thrive.”

The 23-year-old has made 68 appearances in the Swiss second tier overall in his career, having previously competed for FC Aarau, where he joined the professional ranks in the 2017-18 season. Ammeter made his debut for FC Aarau at the start of the 2019-20 season and played every minute of the campaign, recording five shutouts.

A native of New York City whose family returned to Switzerland when he was young, Ammeter joined Swiss Super League club Young Boys on loan in 2021 and made one appearance for the perennial title contender before returning to FC Arau. He joined FC Wil before the 2022-23 season and made recorded three shutouts in 10 appearances in the league during his first campaign before becoming the club’s regular starter this season.

“I am excited by the opportunity to come and be part of the Lights as they enter a new era this season,” said Ammeter. “The plans that were laid out to me when we discussed joining the club give me confidence of success, and I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and competing for the club this season.”
