Championship standout blasts home 25-yard volley for stoppage-time winner in relegation scrap

Danny Trejo could hardly have made a better first impression for new club Korona Kielce.

The 2023 USL Championship All-League selection powered home a 25-yard volley in second-half stoppage time to send his side to a 2-1 victory against ŁKS Łódź in Poland’s top flight on Monday night, lifting Korona Kielce out of the relegation zone in the process.

“For me to debut this way, it’s obviously a dream,” Trejo said postgame. “For me, coming here, that’s always been my goal, and to do it in this way where it means a lot for the team [is great.]”

Trejo recorded 19 goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across the regular season and playoffs for Phoenix Rising FC, helping lead the side to its first USL Championship title. Now he’s picked up right where he left off for his new club.
