TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Friday the club had signed goalkeeper Joey Roggeveen ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Roggeveen joins after playing most of his professional career in the second-division Keuken Kampion Divisie in the Netherlands. Roggeveen came through the development systems of Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar along with time at historic club Ajax Amsterdam, competing at the U-21 level for Alkmaar before moving into the senior level at FC Voldendam. Most recently, Roggeveen played for FC Den Bosch, making 10 appearances for the club and recording a pair of shutouts in the 2023-24 season.

“I am really excited to join the team,” said Roggeveen “It has always been a big dream for me to make minutes and show my qualities in the United States. I can’t wait to meet the fans and step on the field in the stadium.”

The 25-year-old has made 34 appearances overall in the Keuken Kampion Divisie, including 13 appearances for FC Volendam, where he recorded three shutouts. A native of Holland, Roggeveen competes internationally for Suriname, and made his senior international debut for the country last year in a Concacaf Nations League A clash against Mexico. Roggeveen was also named in Suriname’s squad for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.

“I am excited to welcome a goalkeeper of Joey’s caliber to FC Tulsa,” said FC Tulsa goalkeeper coach Adam Lewis “Bringing a goalkeeper with international experience and a background from one of the finest European academies shows his pedigree as a goalkeeper.

“Joey is everything we identified in a top goalkeeper that will be a success here at FC Tulsa. He is an exceptional shot-stopper with the ability with his feet along with a calming presence in goal to put us where we belong in the USL Championship.”
