ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Wednesday the club had signed winger Nick Moon for the upcoming USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Moon joins the Rowdies after spending the past two seasons in the Championship with San Diego Loyal SC, where he recorded three goals and six assists in 47 appearances in league play.

The 27-year-old had previously played in the Championship for Indy Eleven, where he notched five goals and six assists in 45 appearances for the Boys in Blue across the 2020 and 2021 seasons. A native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Moon began his professional career in USL League One in 2019 with Lansing Ignite SC, where he earned All-League One honors after recording six goals in 30 appearances for the club.

Analysis

Nick Moon’s main numbers might not jump off the page, but the versatile winger was a key piece in San Diego Loyal SC’s success over the past two seasons with his stellar two-way play. At 6-foot-1, he brings good size to the position and completed 28 dribbles in 19 appearances during the 2023 campaign while also notching 17 chances created and a crossing accuracy rate of 28.6 percent.

In Tampa Bay’s three-man defensive system, Moon figures to slot in at one of the wingback positions when he’s on the field, potentially opposite fellow former SD Loyal man Blake Bodily, another arrival at the Rowdies this offseason.
