BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC announced on Tuesday midfielder Mikey Lopez had undergone successful surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Lopez’s rehabilitation process will determine his recovery timeline. He is expected to make a full recovery, but the club added he will be sidelined for a significant part of the 2024 USL Championship season.
A former United States U-20 international, Lopez joined Legion FC prior to its inaugural season in 2019. The 30-year-old has made 125 appearances for the club across the USL Championship’s regular season and playoffs, third-most in club history behind only Prosper Kasim (141) and Matt VanOekel (129).
