INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Monday the club had signed midfielder Tyler Gibson ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season, bringing the veteran back for a second stint in the Circle City. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Gibson made 53 appearances for the Boys in Blue during the 2019 and abbreviated 2020 season, helping the side reach the Eastern Conference Final in the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs while recording one goal and one assist and logging a single-season career-high 3,054 minutes in the regular season – only six minutes shy of every minute of the regular season.
Over the past three seasons, the 33-year-old has competed for LIPAFC rival Louisville City FC. This past campaign he notched a pair of assists in 33 regular season appearances while helping LouCity to its ninth consecutive trip to the Eastern Conference Final in the postseason. Overall, Gibson has made 158 appearances in the USL Championship across the regular season and playoffs, having also been part of FC Cincinnati’s squad that won the Championship’s Players’ Shield in 2018.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Gibson entered the professional ranks in 2015 with the San Antonio Scorpions, and also competed for Rayo OKC and the San Francisco Deltas, helping the latter to claim the North American Soccer League’s Soccer Bowl in 2017. He competed collegiately at UNC Charlotte, where he was voted both the Conference USA Rookie of the Year and Midfielder of the Year in 2009.
