HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic announced on Wednesday it had acquired forward Skage Simonsen via transfer from fellow USL Championship club Detroit City FC. In a corresponding transaction, Detroit City acquired defender Matt Sheldon via transfer from Hartford. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.
Simonsen has recorded five goals and eight assists across two seasons in the Championship, joining the professional ranks with Loudoun United FC before the 2022 campaign. He signed with Detroit last offseason and notched three goals and one assist in 24 appearances for Le Rouge, recording 34 shots and a shooting accuracy rate of 47.8 percent.
The 25-year-old was selected by D.C. United with the No. 69 pick of the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft prior to signing with Loudoun United. He had previously competed collegiately at Southern Methodist University, where he recorded 10 goals and four assists in 27 appearances across two seasons.
