San Antonio adds midfielder Luke Haakenson

26-year-old joins after making 67 appearances across three seasons for Nashville SC


San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Luke Haakenson, who made 19 appearances for Nashville SC across all competitions a season ago.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Luke Haakenson ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Originally from Maple Grove, Minn., Haakenson was selected by Nashville SC with the 80th pick of the 2020 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. In 67 total appearances with Nashville, he tallied four goals and four assists, including a goal against Liga MX’s Toluca during the team’s run to the final of the 2023 Leagues Cup Final.

“We’re delighted to introduce Luke to our team,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “With a winning mindset, team-first attitude, strong motivation, exceptional versatility and a commitment to excel on both ends of the ball, Luke is a valuable addition to our established team identity.”

Haakenson also brings prior USL Championship experience having notched three goals and three assists in 16 matches while on loan in 2020 with the Charlotte Independence.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Haakenson spent time with USL League Two sides Des Moines Menace and Chicago United FC. He also competed collegiately at Creighton University where he made 56 starts, chalking up 14 goals and 11 assists in four seasons.
