Oakland’s Bryan Tamacas, El Paso’s Eric Calvillo, Amando Moreno named for Friday night exhibition at Estadio Custatlan

Oakland Roots SC's Bryan Tamacas is one of three USL Championship players selected in El Salvador's squad for an international exhibition against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF on Friday night in San Salvador.

On Friday night, three of the USL Championship’s senior internationals could take the field against arguably the greatest player of all time.

Oakland Roots SC defender Bryan Tamacas and the El Paso Locomotive FC duo of midfielder Eric Calvillo and forward Amando Moreno have been named in El Salvador’s squad for a unique international exhibition that will see La Selecta face Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF of Major League Soccer at the Estadio Cuscatlán.

El Salvador will host the Argentine international – who on Monday claimed The Best FIFA Men’s Player award for a record eighth time – as IMFC begins its preparations for the new MLS season. The side also features new arrival Luis Suárez as well as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, both of whom joined Miami midway through last season.

Capped 72 times previously by his country, Tamacas is set for his second season with Oakland Roots SC this campaign after agreeing a new contract that could keep him in Northern California for the next two years this offseason. The 28-year-old captained La Selecta four times in the past year, while also making 23 appearances for Oakland.

Calvillo is set for his third season in El Paso this campaign having previously claimed the USL Championship title with Orange County SC in the 2021 season. The central midfielder has recorded nine goals and six assists in 63 appearances for Locomotive FC, and this past campaign surpassed 100 appearances in the USL Championship’s regular season overall.

Moreno will join Calvillo in El Paso this season after making the offseason move from New Mexico United to Locomotive FC. The attacking playmaker recorded his second double-digit season in the league with 10 goals a campaign ago, playing a key role in United’s postseason berth, and has recorded 35 goals and 15 assists in 115 appearances in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs overall.

Kickoff on Friday night is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET with live coverage available on MLSSoccer.com.
