OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Friday the club had signed El Salvador international Bryan Tamacas to a new contract for the 2024 USL Championship season with a club option for the 2025 campaign. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

The 28-year-old made 23 appearances for Roots SC after signing with the club last February, and recorded one goal, two assists, and 20 chances created in 1,765 minutes of action. The right-sided defender also recorded 22 interceptions, 23 clearances and 103 recoveries while winning 26 tackles at a 76.5 percent success rate.

“Securing the long-term future of Bryan with our club is special,” said Oakland Roots SC Head Coach Noah Delgado. “This signing is another huge cornerstone to what we are building in Oakland with the long-term vision of the club in mind.”

Tamacas joined Oakland having won five league titles – three Apertura and two Clausura – in the top-flight of his native El Salvador. In addition to representing Oakland, Tamacas has served El Salvador as captain over the last several years and has recorded 72 appearances at the senior international level including the past four editions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, dating to 2017.

Analysis

Bryan Tamacas’ was solid for Oakland Roots SC in his first campaign with the club, with his qualities on the ball on the right side serving most often as a wingback in the club’s three-man back line system allowing him to get into attacking positions regularly while being reliable in winning position thanks to his regular good positioning.

For a player of his pedigree, however, Roots SC will likely be hoping for more in the coming year from the 28-year-old as the club looks to return to the postseason. Tamacas’ +3.70 Goals Added mark placed him just inside the Top 20 full backs in the league per American Soccer Analysis, more than half the total of Defender of the Year candidate Jack Gurr as the two played a similar position. Tamacas should be capable of more, and Oakland will be hoping he delivers.
