MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Friday the club had signed goalkeeper Tyler Deric to a multi-year contract ahead of the 2024 USL Championship campaign. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Deric joins 901 FC having most recently competed for Rio Grande Valley FC, spending the past three seasons with the Toros. The 35-year-old recorded 80 appearances, 172 saves and 21 shutouts for the Toros while helping them reach the USL Championship Playoffs in both the 2021 and 2022 campaigns.

"We are excited to bring Tyler into our group,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “He is an extremely experienced goalkeeper and through our discussions has shown a burning desire to win a championship here in Memphis. We look forward to Tyler having a big presence at the back for us this season and helping us achieve our objectives.”

Deric joined the professional ranks in 2009 when he became the first Homegrown signing in Houston Dynamo FC history. He went on to make more than 100 senior appearances for the club while posting 27 shutouts across all competitions.

Analysis

Tyler Deric joins Memphis 901 FC coming off the best of his three seasons for Rio Grande Valley FC numbers-wise, with his eight shutouts and 76 saves both career highs in 28 appearances in the regular season.

The veteran proved capable of spectacular saves while at RGV FC, and this past season that lined up with a goals prevented mark of -0.55 and a goals-against average of 1.36. However, in the past three years Deric didn’t post a season with a save percentage above 70 percent and he has averaged a save percentage of 64.9 percent for his career. Memphis will be hoping those numbers get a bump up as he arrives at AutoZone Park.
