DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Thursday the club had signed veteran forward Elvis Amoh to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Amoh comes to Detroit City FC with five years of USL Championship experience under his belt, having played for Loudoun United FC, Rio Grande Valley FC, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, and most recently, Hartford Athletic. Amoh has made a total of 109 appearances in the USL Championship, returning 39 goals and five assists across the regular season and playoffs.

The 31-year-old recorded five goals and one assist for Hartford in the 2023 campaign, breaking a run of consecutive seasons with double-digit goals in the league. In 2021, Amoh recorded 13 goals in 22 appearances for RGV FC at a strike rate of a goal every 120.5 minutes to help lead the Toros to the Western Conference Semifinals of the USL Championship Playoffs.

The following year he bagged 13 goals and three assists for the Switchbacks, helping the side reach the Western Conference Final of the 2022 USL Championship Playoffs. Overall, Amoh has averaged a goal every 195.7 minutes in the Championship over his career.

Analysis

Detroit City FC brings in Elvis Amoh with the hope the center forward can retain his confidence and his form after a season in which nothing seemed to quick fall right for the Ghanaian. Amoh posted an Expected Goals mark of 9.07xG individual for the Athletic, but his shooting accuracy rate of 33.6 percent led to a shot conversion rate of just 7.7 percent.

Amoh’s past performance does offer hope of a return to form, however. He’s recorded at least a 9.00xG mark in each of the past three seasons, and produced two stellar seasons with Rio Grande Valley FC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. If Amoh can rebound, it would be a major boost to a Detroit attack that scored the fewest goals in the Championship a season ago.
