Dundee United product arrives having made more than 100 appearances for League of Ireland’s Bohemians


Detroit City FC has signed 25-year-old midfielder Ali Coote, who most recently competed for Bohemian F.C. in the League of Ireland Premier League.

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Ali Coote to a two-year contract that will see him in Rouge and Gold through the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Coote joins DCFC from Bohemian F.C. of the League of Ireland’s Premier Division, where he played from 2021-2023 after being acquired by the club in December 2020. The 25-year-old made 110 appearances for Bohemians, including competing for the side in UEFA Europa Conference League Qualifying.

A native of Bedford, England, Coote competed in the youth international ranks for Scotland, appearing for the country’s U-17 squad in European Championship qualifying. He joined the professional ranks with Dundee United and made his debut in the Scottish Premiership against Aberdeen on April 18, 2015 and helped the Tangerines win the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2017.  

Coote also competed at the senior level for East Fife on loan from Dundee United, and in Ireland for Waterford. Between those stints, he joined current Premier League club Brentford FC’s organization, signing with the Bees’ B team where he made 79 appearances and scored 19 goals for Brentford B in his three-year spell at the club before joining Waterford in January, 2020.
