MIAMI – Miami FC announced on Friday the club had signed attacking midfielder Allen Gavilanes ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Gavilanes joins Miami having spent the past three seasons with Greenville Triumph SC in USL League One. The 24-year-old was a mainstay for the Triumph, making 89 appearances across the regular season and playoffs while recording eight goals, 16 assists and 134 chances created in helping the side advance to the postseason all three years.

This past campaign, Gavilanes posted a career-high nine assists on 42 chances created while also logging individual bests with 32 appearances and 2,269 minutes of play. In addition to his attacking contributions, he also won 24 tackles at a success rate of 66.7 percent, had a passing accuracy rate of 76.6 percent and completed 41 dribbles.

Analysis

Allen Gavilanes will take the step into the Championship having been an effective attacking piece for Greenville Triumph SC. This past campaign he finished second to Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC’s Arthur Rogers – now of FC Tulsa after his offseason move – with nine assists across the regular season and playoffs, and his creativity is what Miami is going to be hoping he brings to South Florida.

In each of his three seasons with Greenville, the New Jersey native has recorded an Expected Assists mark of at least 5.04xA, with this past campaign seeing him hit a career-high at 6.85xA, good for fourth in the league across the regular season and playoffs. If he can get a little better fortune in front of goal – in 2023 his shooting accuracy rate hit 60.7 percent, but his shot conversion rate lagged at 7.1 percent – this could be a good addition for Miami’s rebuilding squad.
