TULSA, Okla. – FC Tulsa announced on Tuesday the club had signed experienced midfielder Charlie Adams ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Adams joins Tulsa after spending four seasons with San Diego Loyal SC, where he made 113 appearances and played a key role in the club’s success from the center of midfield. This past campaign, the 29-year-old recorded one goal and six assists in 27 appearances while posting a passing accuracy rate of 88.1 percent.

A native of Hendon, England, Adams will enter his 10th season in the USL Championship in the upcoming campaign. He began his career with Louisville City FC in its inaugural season in 2015, where he made 21 appearances, and subsequently made stops at Real Monarchs SLC and Orange County SC before joining SD Loyal for the 2020 season.

Adams has made 196 appearances in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs, recording 18 goals and 30 assists in 14,350 minutes of action so far in his career.

Analysis

Charlie Adams’ arrival with FC Tulsa adds another experienced head in the middle of the park following Justin Portillo’s addition earlier this offseason. Adams and Portillo should have a good understanding of each other’s games, having been teammates for Real Monarchs SLC in the 2018 season.

The presence of Adams and Portillo should also be a major benefit for young standout Nathan Worth, who should gain plenty from the experience his new teammates bring as the 16-year-old looks to push forward in his career, while all three hope to lead Tulsa back to the postseason in the 2024 campaign.
