El Salvador international’s bicycle kick finish against Republic FC at Weidner Field earns top spot in final

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Jairo Henriquez has claimed the 2023 USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Year award as his bicycle kick against Sacramento Republic FC at Weidner Field on September 23 came out on top of the final fan vote of the year.

The El Salvador international is set to return for the Switchbacks in the 2024 season having made a notable impact for the club in the past 18 months. Henriquez recorded six goals in the league last season, including his spectacular bicycle kick finish that capped the Switchbacks’ 2-0 victory against Republic FC during the club’s drive back to the USL Championship Playoffs.

Henriquez’s finish took 63 percent of the final poll conducted last week. The Charleston Battery’s AJ Paterson finished second on 24 percent for his brilliant late game-winner against Hartford Athletic in June at Trinity Health Stadium.
