Standout stop against Phoenix Rising FC claims online poll for annual award

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Jahmali Waite has been crowned the winner of the USL Championship’s Fans’ Choice Save of the Year as his standout stop against Phoenix Rising FC took top spot in the online poll conducted over the past week.

Waite’s one-handed stop to deny a curling finish by Phoenix’s Eddie Munjoma was part of a three-save shutout in the Hounds’ 1-0 victory at Highmark Stadium on June 3. It was one of 10 shutouts the Jamaican international recorded over the course of the season as Pittsburgh claimed the 2023 USL Championship Players’ Shield.

Waite claimed 39 percent of the online poll conducted at USLChampionship.com to claim the award. Birmingham Legion FC’s Matt VanOekel finished second on 24 percent, while Louisville City FC’s Oliver Semmle took third on 20 percent.
