SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed forward Luis Solignac for his second stint with the club ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval, and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Solignac spent the abbreviated 2020 USL Championship season in San Antonio and recorded eight goals and three assists in 16 appearances, during which he logged 1,339 minutes of action.

“We are excited to welcome back Lucho and his family to San Antonio,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “He is a proven goal scorer and leader, serving as a captain in multiple clubs across his career. Lucho understands and is committed to our team identity and club culture, and is hungry to win a championship.”

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Solignac has spent the past three seasons playing for El Paso Locomotive in the USL Championship. In 81 games across the regular season and playoffs, he recorded 35 goals and 13 assists. In 2022, he tallied a career-high 16 goals in 26 appearances.

Analysis

Luis Solignac’s return to San Antonio – reversing the move of Justin Dhillon to El Paso Locomotive FC previously this offseason – marks the return of one of the Championship’s most consistent goalscorers over the past four seasons to the Championship title contender.

Solignac’s 43 goals in 97 appearances in the Championship across the regular season have come at a strike rate of a goal every 175.4 minutes, and rank eighth over the past four campaigns. The 32-year-old had made a solid start to the 2022 campaign, too, recording nine goals in 22 appearances before being sidelined after El Paso’s August 13 game against Phoenix Rising FC. If fully back to fitness, this could be a great addition into Head Coach Alen Marcina’s attacking group.
