COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday the club had signed forward Alex Andersson ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Andersson becomes the fourth new player to join the Switchbacks this offseason, with the club having also re-signed midfielders Steven Echevarria and Zach Zandi to new contracts while exercising a contract option on forward Jonas Fjeldberg.

Additional announced returnees James Musa and Duke Lacroix were previously under contract for the 2024 USL Championship. On Wednesday night, goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky announced his retirement from the professional game.

Andersson begins his professional career with the Switchbacks having previously competed collegiately for the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Over the past four seasons with the Mountain Lions, the 23-year-old has recorded 25 goals and nine assists in 2,749 minutes of action in a decorated NCAA Division II career.

A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Andersson was voted the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in the 2020-21 season and to the RMAC All-Conference Second Team. In his sophomore campaign he was voted RMAC Player of the Year and was named to the RMAC All-Conference First Team in both his sophomore and senior seasons.

“I'm honored to be joining Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. I've worked hard to earn this opportunity and will continue to challenge myself even further," said Andersson. "I'm buzzing and can't wait to play in front of the fans and achieve something special together."

In addition to his collegiate performances, Andersson also featured this past summer for Asheville City FC in USL League Two where he recorded five goals in 10 games to help ACFC finish first in the South Central Division.

“Alex is a young and hungry player who has proven himself at the college level with UCCS and USL League Two with Asheville City," said Switchbacks Technical Director and Assistant Coach James Chambers. "It is clear that he has a desire to continue to develop and we are excited to watch him grow. His mentality and personality will only grow and enhance the quality of the group.”
