Rowdies retain goalkeeper Breno on new contract; Miami brings aboard young Colombia Zuleta

LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC announced on Monday the club had exercised contract options on goalkeeper Dane Jacomen, midfielders Houssou Landry and Cole Turner, and forward Kalil ElMedkhar for the 2024 USL Championship season. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

The moves come following the club’s re-signing of goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux, defender Yanis Leerman and forward Zach Ryan, and the arrival of midfielders Drew Skundrich and Tommy McCabe as the first new signings of the offseason for the club.

Additionally, defenders Kwame Awuah, midfielders Alex Nagy, and forwards Isaac Espinal, Wesley Leggett and Tommy Williamson were previously under contract for the 2024 season, giving the side 12 players currently set for the new campaign.

The club also announced Daniel Chica, Abdoul Koanda, Koa Santos, Aidan Rocha, Juan Ramirez, Nelson Martinez, and Bryce Washington were out of contract, while Jeremy Garay, Chris Hegardt, Jake Morris, Harvey Neville, Abdoul Zanne returned to their parent clubs following the conclusion of their respective loans.

ROWDIES RE-SIGN GOALKEEPER BRENO: The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Monday the club had signed goalkeeper Phil Breno to a new contract for the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Breno appeared in four matches for the Rowdies during the 2023 USL Championship season, recording 12 saves as back-up to Connor Sparrow. He first joined the Rowdies on loan from Forward Madison FC midway through the 2022 season and took over as starter for the final months of the year.

The 28-year-old keeper became the hero for the Rowdies in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinal that season with a dramatic penalty stop in stoppage time to send the Rowdies to the third straight conference final. The Rowdies then brought Breno aboard with a one-year contract the following offseason.

MIAMI ADDS COLOMBIAN ZULETA: Miami FC announced on Monday the club had signed forward Isaac Zuleta, who joins the side after spending the second half of the 2023 campaign with fellow USL Championship club New Mexico United. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

The 20-year-old Colombian youth international did not make a league appearance for United during his time at the club, but brings experience from both Colombia’s U-19 and U-20 national teams as well as La Liga club Getafe CF’s U-19 and reserve team.
