SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Monday the club had signed midfielder Mohamed Omar ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are pleased to add Mohamed to the team,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “He provides us with a physical presence in the center of the field, the on-ball ability to provoke pressure and find a free player and has tremendous upside and potential. He has also already demonstrated character and leadership qualities, and we look forward to having him in San Antonio.”
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Omar has spent the past two seasons playing for HFX Wanderers FC in the Canadian Premier League. Last season, he made 27 appearances and logged 1,649 minutes while helping the Wanderers advance to the CPL Playoffs for the first time in three seasons. The 24-year-old had previously been selected by the Colorado Rapids in the First Round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft after helped lead the University of Notre Dame to the Semifinals of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament.
