LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC announced on Thursday the club had signed midfielder Tommy McCabe to a two-year contract ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season, and had re-signed goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux to a new contract. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

McCabe joins Loudoun having most recently competed in the USL Championship for FC Tulsa. The 25-year-old has made 101 appearances in the USL Championship across the regular season and playoffs, having previously competed for Detroit City FC, Orange County, Memphis 901 FC and North Carolina FC. In 2021, McCabe was part of the Orange County side that claimed the 2021 USL Championship title.

“We’re thrilled to welcome former USL Champion Tommy [McCabe], to Loudoun United,“ said Loudoun Head Coach Ryan Martin. “He’s had a tremendous career and will bring great experience to our team. He’s a phenomenal reader of the game, who covers a lot of ground. He’ll be key in the way we press and build in possession.”

Fauroux returns to the Red-and-White having recorded three shutouts and 47 saves in 18 matches. The French shot-stopper had previously competed for Austin Bold FC and the Charleston Battery in the Championship. He has posted a cumulative 58.6 percent save percentage on 138 saves in 45 appearances.

“We are very excited to welcome Hugo [Fauroux] back to Loudoun,” said Martin. “At the end of last season, we saw his best performances and we’re excited to build on that momentum as we head into the 2024 season. His ability with the ball at his feet and helping us build out of the back will be key.”

Analysis

Tommy McCabe arrives at Loudoun United as a potentially key midfield cog, but one who needs to become a better ball-winner as well as distributor in the center of the park. In the Championship, McCabe has held a duel success rate below 50 percent in each of five campaigns, averaging a 44.5 percent success rate while winning only 26.7 percent of his tackles over 15 appearances for FC Tulsa.

McCabe’s passing should be a plus for Loudoun – his career passing accuracy rate us 84.5 percent, and he’s recorded 47 chances created in 101 appearances as a more deep-lying player. Finding another level will be important as United looks to push for its first postseason berth.
