LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Wednesday it had agreed a multi-year contract extension with forward Wilson Harris, keeping the standout striker in purple ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Harris has led LouCity in goals in each of the past two campaigns, with his 24 goals already putting him fifth in the club’s all-time list. He has additionally put together four-game scoring streaks twice for the clu, doing so both in 2022 and 2023.

Still only 24 years old, the Los Angeles native continues to show upside after a bright start to his career.

“Re-signing with Louisville City, I really wanted to be around the guys again and be in a like-minded locker room.” Harris said. “For me, it’s the best club in the league, and I just really enjoy it here. Moving to Louisville City has helped my career a lot, giving me consistent minutes. In the past two years, I’ve developed as a player and person and just learned a lot about what it is to be a professional. That’s been huge growth for me.”

Harris previously competed in the USL Championship for Sporting Kansas City II, where he won the Championship’s Young Player of the Year award in the 2020 season. Harris has recorded 49 regular season goals in the league in his career, and with his next tally is set to become the youngest player to reach a half-century of regular season goals in the Championship’s history ahead of Junior Flemmings’ current mark of 24 years and 247 days.

Analysis

Securing Wilson Harris’ return is a major move for Louisville City FC, with the young forward still recording nine goals in a season in which he was hindered at times by injury while making fewer than 20 starts in the campaign.

Harris’ 49 regular season in 124 appearances have him poised to continue to make history as one of its brightest young marksmen, while he still ranks in the Top 10 all-time in minutes per goal among players with at least 40 regular season goals in league, averaging a goal every 161.6 minutes. The 24-year-old’s shooting accuracy rate of 55 percent and shot conversion rate of 19 percent are highly sustainable, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if Harris is among the contenders for the Golden Boot next season.
