EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed forward Amando Moreno for the 2024 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Moreno arrives in El Paso after compiling one of the best seasons in his professional career at New Mexico United. The 28-year-old was United’s top scorer with 10 goals – one off his individual single-season high – and tied for the club lead with five assists as New Mexico earned a second consecutive playoff berth.

“Bringing Amando to El Paso is very exciting for our club, fans and community and it shows our ambition to compete for trophies in 2024,” said Locomotive FC Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut. “We saw this year how difficult it was to play against him, and I admired his tenaciousness and willingness to win. He had an excellent 2023 season and was a major reason why New Mexico was able to secure a playoff berth. He makes big plays in big games, and I know he is eager to wear the Locomotive jersey and colors to bring success to El Paso.”

The New Jersey native achieved that success despite missing much of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL. In four seasons with New Mexico, Moreno totaled 24 goals and 11 assists in 83 total matches.

Moreno also brings with him senior international football experience, where he has made 13 appearances for El Salvador in his career, most recently competing in the Concacaf Nations League in this past September and October. While competing for La Selecta, Moreno has competed alongside current Locomotive FC midfielder.

Prior to joining New Mexico, Moreno competed in the Championship for the New York Red Bulls II, where he recorded 11 goals and four assists in 30 appearances. In 2018, he scored the game-winning goal as the Red Bulls II defeated FC Cincinnati to advance to the Eastern Conference Final of the USL Championship Playoffs. He has made 113 appearances in the league overall across the regular season and playoffs, recording 35 goals and 15 assists.

Moreno’s professional resume also includes competing for Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire (2019), Club Tijuana of Liga MX (2014-2017) and Dorados de Sinaloa in Ascenso MX, Mexico’s Second Division (2017).
