PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Rhode Island FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed experienced midfielder Conor McGlynn as its second arrival ahead of the club’s inaugural season in the USL Championship in 2024. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

McGlynn joins RIFC having spent the past four seasons with Hartford Athletic, where he recorded 99 appearances and 6,932 minutes of action across the USL Championship’s regular season and playoffs.

“I am incredibly excited to welcome Conor to the Rhode Island FC roster. He is an experienced USL midfielder with excellent passing range and game understanding,” said RIFC Head Coach and General Manager Khano Smith. “Conor fits the mold of the kind of person and player we want to have at our club, and his presence on the pitch will provide us with quality USL experience in our inaugural season.”

During his time with Hartford, McGlynn has recorded nine goals, four assists and 36 chances created, and has shown the capability of the spectacular. Six of his goals have come from outside the penalty area, including a halfway-line finish in the 2021 season which landed on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10. Additionally, he has recorded 187 clearances, 113 interceptions and 129 tackles defensively while recording an 85.5 percent passing accuracy rate for his career.

“I can’t wait to wear the Rhode Island FC crest as I join a community of people dedicated to bringing the beautiful game to Rhode Island,” said McGlynn. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be on a team that will work diligently from Day One to be a team that all Rhode Island can be proud of. I look forward to a great first season and being a part of what Rhode Island FC is building.”

Prior to his professional career, McGlynn played with BW Gottschee Academy in New York. McGlynn played collegiate soccer for Siena College. His brother Jack plays in Major League Soccer for the Philadelphia Union.
