Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Cal Jennings claims third Player of the Week award after two goal, one assist outing vs. Louisville

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 32 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with Tampa Bay Rowdies forward Cal Jennings voted the Championship Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball after he recorded two goals and one assist in the Rowdies’ 3-2 victory against Louisville City FC to conclude the regular season at Lynn Family Stadium.

The award is Jennings’ third this season and adds to his Player of the Month award for September as the Rowdies newcomer achieved an individual single-season high with 19 goals overall in the campaign. Jennings helped Tampa Bay get out to a flying start in Louisville on Saturday as his interception in the attacking third redirected possession to forward partner JJ Williams, who struck home after just 27 seconds for the visitors. Jennings added a pair of goals two minutes apart later in the first half to end the season second in the league to Golden Boot winner Albert Dikwa of Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

Jennings earned 45 percent of the ballot to claim the award. New Mexico United’s Greg Hurst finished second on 36 percent after recording a pair of goals to help his side claim a place in the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs on Friday night in a 4-1 victory against Memphis 901 FC at Isotopes Park.
