A trio of teenage USL Championship stars have been named in the United States U-17 Men’s National Team squad for its upcoming training camp in Brazil from September 29 and October 8.

Birmingham Legion FC midfielder Matthew Corcoran, San Diego Loyal SC goalkeeper Duran Ferree and Orange County SC forward Bryce Jamison have each been selected for the training camp. The camp is the last prior to the selection of the squad for the 2023 FIFA Men’s U-17 World Cup, which will kick off on November 10 in Indonesia.

Corcoran’s selection is his first call-up to a national team camp. The 17-year-old has had a breakout campaign for Legion FC this year, recording 28 appearances and 21 starts as part of a veteran-laden roster that is closing in on its fifth consecutive trip to the USL Championship Playoffs. Corcoran has recorded one goal and three assists while posting 26 chances created as one of the side’s set piece specialists, while also recording a passing accuracy rate of 82 percent and recording 25 tackles won and 19 interceptions.

“Matthew is a dynamic young player, and he continues to improve every time on the field,” said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. “We know he’ll make an impact with the U.S.YNT team and we’re excited for him.”

Ferree returns to the squad having previously competed for the United States at the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship, helping the group qualify for the tournament as one of two goalkeepers used throughout the event. Ferree turned 17 years old on Thursday and has made three appearances this season in the USL Championship, recording four saves. Earlier this season he became the youngest goalkeeper to record a shutout in league history aged 16 years, 6 months, 27 days against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Jamison has been a regular member of the United States U-17s in recent months, meanwhile, as well as earning regular minutes while Orange County pursues its berth in the USL Championship Playoffs next month. The 17-year-old has recorded one goal and one assist while notching 12 chances created in 23 appearances this season in the league, having previously scored his first professional goal in the Championship late last season.

The United States and Brazil will meet twice during the trip on October 4 and 6, with the two nations currently tied for the most appearances at the FIFA Men’s U-17 World Cup all-time with 18 apiece.
