OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots & Soul Sports Club announced on Monday that Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of the iconic rock band Green Day, has become the latest Oakland icon to join the organization’s ownership group.

Born in Oakland and raised throughout the East Bay, Armstrong has long been committed to his community, having remained rooted in the area throughout his career with one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

“I’m so excited to be part of the community ownership of Oakland Roots and Soul,” said Armstrong. “The club represents everything I love about the (East) Bay Area. I believe Oakland Roots and Soul Sports Club has an amazing future ahead.”

Armstrong is among more than 3,000 people who have become new investors in Roots and Soul through the organization’s Community Investment Round, launched last week. Currently the club has raised more than $1.85 million through the CIR, already making it the most successful sports team Community Investment Round in the United States.

Armstrong joins a collection of well-known Oakland icons as an investor in Oakland Roots and Soul Sports club, joining NFL legend Marshawn Lynch, global rap star G-Eazy and NFL quarterback Josh Johnson as part-owners of Oakland Roots and Soul SC.
