The Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Raiko Arozarena and Miami FC’s Ryan Telfer have both been named by Concacaf to the Concacaf Nations League A Best XI for the opening set of games in the 2023-24 edition of the tournament.
Arozarena earned the nod as the Best XI goalkeeper after recording a pair of shutouts for Cuba, making seven saves across a scoreless draw with Haiti and a 1-0 victory against Suriname in the past week. The 26-year-old’s week was highlighted by a crucial late save against Haiti, denying current New Mexico United forward Shanyder Borgelin from close range to preserve a point for his side.
Telfer, meanwhile, played a key role in Trinidad and Tobago’s pair of victories and earned selection among the four midfielders. The 29-year-old helped set up a late game-winner for Nathanial James in the Soca Warrior’s 1-0 against Curacao, and then recorded a goal and assist in a 3-2 victory on the road at El Salvador that put Trinidad and Tobago on top of Group A after the opening two games.
Arozarena and Telfer were joined by a handful of other USL Championship and League One standouts who put in notable performances over the past week of action.
Luther Archimede, Sacramento Republic FC: Archimede scored in both of Guadeloupe’s victories against St. Kitts and Nevis (2-1 on Thursday night) and Sint Maarten (4-0 on Sunday night) to help the side to a tie for first in Nations League B alongside St. Lucia
Jahmali Waite, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC: Waite posted a two-save shutout as Jamaica defeated Honduras 1-0 on Friday night in Kingston, helping the Reggae Boys to an undefeated start over their first two games.
Oalex Anderson, North Carolina FC: Anderson put on an attacking show for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, recording a seven-minute hat trick in the side’s 4-3 victory against Bermuda on Tuesday afternoon.
Nicolas Cardona, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Cardona captained Puerto Rico to a pair of victories against the Bahamas (6-1) and Antigua and Barbuda (5-0) as El Hurucan Azul made a strong start to their League B campaign.
