Week 27 in the USL Championship’s regular season wraps up on Sunday evening with an interconference clash that brings together Birmingham Legion FC and New Mexico United, both of which are looking for an upturn in their respective form.

Here's a look ahead at the action.

Birmingham Legion FC vs. New Mexico United

Venue: Protective Stadium
Kickoff: 6:30 p.m. ET
Broadcast: ESPN+

The Lowdown: Birmingham Legion FC and New Mexico United square off for the second time in their histories each looking for improvement on their recent performances. Legion FC (11-13-3, 36pts) suffered a 3-0 defeat to San Diego Loyal SC last Sunday afternoon for the club’s second consecutive setback, leaving the side in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with seven games to go in the regular season. Birmingham now sits five points behind Indy Eleven in sixth place, and while it has a decent cushion to the teams below the playoff line in the East, the hosts are in need of improvement defensively after conceding three times in each of the past two outings. New Mexico (9-12-6, 33pts) are winless in their last two outings after falling 1-0 at home to the Charleston Battery last Saturday night, dropping the side to 10th place in the West. United will be without both Amando Moreno (El Salvador) and on-loan forward Shanyder Borgelin (Haiti) on international duty on Sunday, meaning the side will need others such as Sergio Rivas and Santi Moar to step up to provide the scoring on the road. The visitors are only two points out of the playoff positions going into the weekend, however, leaving hope that a late run of form could push the side back into the postseason.

Spotlight Players
Birmingham Legion FC – Neco Brett:
The Jamaican forward is tied for the team lead with 10 goals this season and will look to add to that tally against a New Mexico side he suited up for in the 2022 campaign.

New Mexico United – Sergio Rivas: The attacking midfielder has notched six goals and four assists this campaign and will need to play a notable role if the visitors are to pick up their fourth road victory of the season.
