Toros acquire forward Alex Monis on loan from Chicago Fire FC

20-year-old forward has recorded 11 goals in MLS NEXT Pro over past two seasons

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced on Tuesday the club had acquired forward Alex Monis on loan from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire FC for the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Monis is set to make his first appearance in the USL Championship as he joins the Toros. The Illinois native previously competed in the USL League One ranks with Forward Madison FC where he appeared in seven total matches while on loan from the Fire between the 2020-2022 seasons.

The 20-year-old has also competed more recently in MLS NEXT Pro, where he has recorded 11 goals and two assists in 40 appearances for Chicago Fire FC 2 across the past two seasons. A homegrown signing by the first on March 11, 2020, Monis made his MLS debut came November 7, 2021 entering as a 72nd-minute substitute against Columbus Crew SC.

Monis has logged three official appearances with the first team and scored his first, and only, top-flight goal on October 9, 2022 at home against the New York Revolution, which helped the side earn a 1-1 draw at SeatGeek Stadium.
