OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Jeciel Cedeño to a multi-year contract extension. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Acquired earlier this season via transfer from fellow USL Championship club, Cedeño has made 15 appearances for Roots SC, recording one goal and one assist while notching 25 shots and 20 chances created, the latter mark good for second in Roots SC’s squad this campaign.

“We have been incredibly happy with the acquisition of Jeciel,” said Roots SC Head Coach Noah Delgado. “Since joining the squad he has been one of the best attacking threats in the league and offers us something with his ability to take on defenders 1v1 that we did not previously have. We are looking forward to his continued development with us here in Oakland.”

Cedeño had previously recorded two goals and one assist in 10 appearances for Hartford. The 23-year-old Ecuadorian is in his third season in the Championship having previously competed for the New York Red Bulls II in the 2019 campaign.

“Jeciel has come in and done exactly what we expected of him. His character and professionalism off the field has been just as impressive as it is on the field and he is a prime example of the type of players we want here in Oakland,” said Roots SC Director of Player Personnel Nana Attakora. “Building around players like Jeciel with a long-term vision allows us to create a cohesive culture for years to come.”
