EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced on Thursday it had signed attacking midfielder Arun Basuljevic for the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season. Basuljevic will be available for selection in El Paso’s contest against Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday night at Southwest University Park.

A USL Championship veteran, the 27-year-old was previously with Monterey Bay F.C., where he made 19 appearances in the club’s inaugural season in 2022. Basuljevic has also played for OKC Energy FC, Fresno FC and New York Red Bulls II, recording seven goals and four assists in 108 across the Championship’s regular season and playoffs in his career.

“I have experience in this league and understand what it takes to win, so I’m excited to join this club and I’m ready to give my all for the team to help make a return to the playoffs,” said Basuljevic.

After competing for the Red Bulls II in 2017, Basuljevic joined Danish club Fremad Amager the following year, making six appearances in Denmark’s second tier before being brought in by current Locomotive FC Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut to Swedish side Nyköpings BIS. Under Clarhaut, Basuljevic recorded one assist in 11 total appearances and was a part of the historic Svenska Cup win against GIF Sundsvall, then in the Swedish First Division.

“I know what type of elements he brings to the team, so we are excited to welcome Arun to our Locomotive family,” said Clarhaut about the Bronx, New York native. "A highly versatile midfielder, he has an incredible engine and a top tier work rate who sacrifices for the team. He’s a winner and we want those type of personalities on our team to keep driving our standard.”
