New Mexico United’s Amando Moreno, El Paso Locomotive FC’s Eric Calvillo and Miami FC’s Joaquin Rivas lead a group of five players from the USL Championship and USL League One that have been named in El Salvador’s roster for its upcoming Concacaf Nations League contests in September.

Oakland Roots SC’s Bryan Tamacas and North Carolina FC’s Nelson Blanco have also been selected by El Salvador Head Coach Hugo Perez. La Selecta will face Guatemala on Thursday, September 7 and Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, September 10 in Group A as they take aim at advancing to the tournament’s knockout stage next spring.

The trio of Moreno, Calvillo and Rivas return to La Selecta after being omitted from the side’s squad this summer at the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. Moreno could make his first appearance since 2021 in World Cup Qualifying, having put together a strong season for New Mexico with seven goals and two assists in 25 appearances this season, while also competing 39 dribbles.

Rivas, meanwhile, has recorded six goals and two assists in 18 appearances for Miami this season, posting a strike rate of a goal every 179.3 minutes while also notching the first hat trick of his professional career earlier this month. The 31-year-old has recorded four goals and three assists in 32 appearances for La Selecta previously in his career.

Calvillo could join Rivas in making his first appearance this year for the side, having made eight appearances previously for his country. The 25-year-old has recorded two goals and two assists this season for Locomotive FC, while also posting a passing accuracy rate of 88.9 percent.

Tamacas has produced a strong first season with Roots SC while also serving as captain for El Salvador at this summer’s Gold Cup. The 28-year-old has made 68 appearances for his country all-time, while for Oakland this season, Tamacas has won 22 of 27 tackles and notched two assists in 18 appearances.

Blanco was also selected for the Gold Cup this summer, with the 24-year-old having made 20 appearances for current USL League One leader North Carolina FC. Blanco has recorded one assist and 18 chances created while recording 15 interceptions and 41 clearances this campaign.
